Oakwood Weekly Update Briefs for 1/8/21

Welcome to the Oakwood Weekly Update Briefs!

These briefs will highlight important points from Ms. Kwasny's weekly newsletters that every parent/guardian needs to know.

Hybrid and Remote learning resumes on Monday, January 11th.  Monday is a B-Day for hybrid learners.

If you have traveled throughout Winter Break we are requiring all students to quarantine for 10 days before returning to school.

All morning meetings will begin at 9:00 am for our 1st and 2nd-grade students. All remote learning will start at 9:30 am following the morning meeting. Morning meetings for EC and Kinder will not change.

Reminder we are off school Monday, January 18th in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will be back on Tuesday with our A Cohort.

Monday January 25th- A Cohort Day

Dr. McConnell recently shared with families and staff that we will have on-site COVID testing available for any staff or student exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. A waiver will be sent home with your child on Monday or Tuesday, depending on your students' cohort designation. Please sign and return the waiver and send it back to your students' homeroom teacher ASAP. We will always call home and get verbal permission before testing your student at school.

Friendly reminder, any computers, computer screens or chargers that are broken will result in a repair charge from the school.

Our next remote learning pick update will be Tuesday, January 19th from 9:00-11:00 am. This pickup will not interfere with teaching time. We will have support staff and administration outside to help distribute materials to families. If you cannot make this time your student's items will be available in the main office for pick up.

Before you send your little bear to school each day, please make sure you complete the following checklist:

1. Complete the wellness screener on your Skyward app or on the computer.

2. Bring your lunch or make sure your student orders with the teacher once they are in the building.

3. Make sure that you are sending your student on the correct day that correlates with their cohort.

4. Make sure your student has their mask and they are ready to wear it!

The Rainbows program is returning to Oakwood School! When something significant

happens in a family, the entire family is affected. Sometimes death, divorce, separation, and

incarceration appear to be grown-up problems, but it has a profound impact on the children

as well. The children grieve as well as the adults. Due to their age and limited life experience,

children often find it extremely difficult to express, verbalize, and cope with their feelings. If

your child is experiencing a type of loss, the Rainbows program may help your child put

his/her feelings into words, work through their grief, build a strong sense of self-esteem, and

begin to accept what has taken place. It also allows your child to have a special time each

week where they can get together with other children of the same age group and talk about

what is happening in their lives. These groups will be led by an Oakwood School Social

Worker trained as a Rainbows Facilitator.

Depending on interest and availability, the program will involve roughly 8-10 weekly support

meetings virtually for children who have experienced a significant family change. Ideally, the

meetings will take place once a week during the recess/lunch hour on a remote learning day.

AM and PM Kindergarten exact times will be determined based on interest, but will most

likely take place during the time frame of 11:00am-12:00pm.

Please fill out this RAINBOWS INTEREST FORM by January 22nd if you are interested for

your child to participate in the Rainbows program. This program is free of charge. We will

provide more detailed information to those that fill out this form. Please call or email Taylor

DeSandre (630-257-2286 ext. 1226, or [email protected]) with any questions.

Have a great weekend!
