Dear Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A Parents and Guardians,
As you have likely heard, the State of Illinois has provided flexibility on how to approach teaching and learning during school emergency days and 'snow days'. As a result, SD113A is planning to introduce 'e-Learning days' during the 2019-2020 school year. This innovative approach to learning ensures that instruction does not stop during inclement weather, and e-Learning days will apply to all students in grades PK-8.
In the past, if a snow day was called, that ‘instructional day’ was tacked on to the end of the school year. This often resulted in a lost day of contextual instruction. Unfortunately, a day at the end of the year cannot address the concepts and skills learned in an earlier term. This also extended the school year which caused scheduling conflicts for many of our students and families. While we may still require the use of a traditional emergency day at times, we will make every effort to call an 'e-Learning' day instead. While e-Learning days already exist in many districts within Illinois and surrounding states, we recognize that this is a new concept for District 113A, and, as a result, we will be analyzing and adjusting along the way to make improvements.
Parents will not be expected to assume the role of the teacher during an e-Learning day. Our plan will ensure that teachers and support staff will be available to assist students with their assignments during the hours of the regular school day. The assignments for e-Learning are designed to be engaging and meaningful and will allow students to learn while at home.
Students will be required to log and submit evidence of their learning experiences in order to receive attendance credit for the day. Further, if students were unable to participate during the e-Learning day, accommodations will be made to assist them in making up the missed work.
