First 52

First 52

River Valley students practiced routines and procedures throughout the day, every day the first 8 days of school this year, or the first 52 hours. River Valley is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) school. Research indicates that students who know and understand the daily routines and procedures are less likely to disrupt the class or lose instructional time. When preventative approaches are effectively implemented in classrooms and throughout the school discipline issues go down and learning increases. There is no better time to teach our expectations then the beginning of the year. After our First 52, Mrs. Burkhardt and Mrs. Lynch held town hall meetings with all the children to review the procedures and routines in school and to wish the students a successful school year. Mrs. Burkhardt & Mrs. Lynch shared the exciting news that the First 52 was working because there was a decrease in office referrals the first 8 days of school this year compared to last year, decreasing our referrals by 63%. River Valley students will have follow-up reminders when they return from week long breaks with practicing again for the first 26 hours they return (the first 4 days).

Keep up the good work River Valley staff & students!
