Oakwood /River Valley/ student "heroes" participate in Fun Run

Super heros getting ready to run!

Oakwood and River Valley Schools engaged in a Fun Run activity to kick off family fitness week.  The theme for the activity was “heroes”, celebrating local heroes and super heroes!  Both schools had fabulous participation from the students, many of whom came to school donning shirts that paid respect to everyday heroes in our communities such as police officers and fire fighters!  Others chose to wear capes or tee-shirts donning the likes of Batman, Superman, or Captain America!

The event was sponsored by the Oakwood/River Valley PTO.  The children requested sponsors make a pledge for their participation in the event.  The monies raised from this event will allow the PTO to support technology within our Lemont Schools.  All students were encouraged to participate in this fun-filled activity to encourage fitness, have some fun, win some prizes, and raise some funds to support our schools.  Later this week, the Oakwood/River Valley Schools will continue to emphasize fitness with a Family Fitness Night scheduled for Thursday, February 12.  The event will be held in the River Valley gymnasium and the Oakwood multipurpose room from 6-7:30 p.m.  Bring your whole family for a night of fun and fitness.  Activities will include Zumba, dance, relay races, hula-hoops, an obstacle course, and many other family-friendly activities.  This is a free event for your entire family to celebrate fitness together.
