River Valley Welcomes New Students to our School

The start of a new school year can be an exciting time for students, but it can also be an anxious time when the school year begins in a brand new school!   In order to help ease the anxiety, River Valley staff go the extra mile to welcome new students and their families.  All students who are new to the River Valley were invited to attend several lunch groups to help with their transition.

Approximately 25 students met with social worker, Cheryl Berchman and intern, Melissa Racine to discuss the exciting challenges and adventures that arise for “new” students.  The children discussed where they attended school previously and were also able to tell their new friends about the things that were different or what they missed from their “old” school, as well as share the new things that they love about River Valley.

The students had the opportunity to learn about the many exciting activities and events that occur at River Valley, including the RV Art Fair, Cultural Fair, spirit days, and other events that occur at River Valley throughout the year.

Many of the students who are new to River Valley are also new to the community, having recently moved here from other communities.  According to Cheryl Berchman, School Social Worker, all of the students’ families were also provided with information and resources available in the Lemont area that they may find helpful as a “welcome to the school and our community.”
