SCHOOL SAFETY & REUNIFICATION INFORMATION

In Lemont-Bromberek SD113A, the safety of our students and staff is more than a priority—it’s a core commitment. As part of our ongoing Strategic Plan efforts, we are proud to share that we are adding three security guards to our team this school year. These new roles will ensure that each of our school facilities has a dedicated security presence, further strengthening the safety structures already in place. This is in addition to the continued partnership and presence of our School Resource Officer (SRO), who supports all district buildings.

The decision to expand our security team aligns directly with our comprehensive safety planning efforts. In today’s world, we must be proactive and prepared—not reactive. These additional positions support a layered safety approach, helping us to respond swiftly, deter potential threats, and most importantly, protect the students and staff we serve every day.

As part of our district-wide safety planning, we also want to take a moment to remind families about an essential but often overlooked component of emergency response: Reunification.

While none of us want to imagine an active shooter or violent school event, it is our responsibility to be prepared. In such a tragic scenario, once law enforcement has secured the scene, we would immediately enact our Reunification Plan, which is the State of Illinois’ required protocol for safely returning students to their families at a secure, alternate site.

Due to the nature of these events, the impacted school becomes a law enforcement-controlled crime scene, meaning students and staff must be transported to a different location for safe pick-up. In partnership with the Lemont Police Department, we have predetermined confidential Reunification sites, which will only be communicated on the day of an event, to preserve safety and security.

Here’s what parents need to know in advance:

  • Please do not go to your child’s school in the event of a reunification event. Instead, wait for instructions and go to the announced reunification location.

  • The process will take time. Law enforcement and school officials will work methodically to ensure each child is released to their verified parent/guardian or emergency contact.

  • Accuracy is critical. Students can only be released to individuals listed in their Skyward emergency contact information.

➡️ Action Item for Parents: If you haven’t already, please log into Skyward and make sure your child’s emergency contact list is accurate and up-to-date. This simple step helps ensure a safe and smooth reunification process should it ever be necessary.

To learn more about the Standard Reunification Method, we encourage you to visit the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, a national leader in school safety protocols. As we move forward with the new school year, we thank you for your trust and partnership in keeping SD113A safe, secure, and student-focused.

MATH & ASSESSMENT UPDATE

Starting this school year, District 113A is excited to transition to i-Ready Math for grades K–8, replacing Eureka, Big Ideas, and Zearn, with a focus on stronger instructional alignment and support for all learners. We’ll also begin using the i-Ready Diagnostic instead of NWEA MAP for math and reading assessment—both tools work together to personalize learning and support student growth. With i-Ready students will also have access to a personalized digital learning platform in both Math and Reading. We look forward to sharing additional information at our upcoming learning events, but for the time being check out our K-8 Math Curriculum & Family Resources for more information, watch the i-Ready Math Introduction Video for SD113A Families, or reach out to Dr. Daniela Fountain dfountain@sd113a.org for more information.
