There should be about a half hour of homework a night for most students in primary grades.  This includes practicing math facts and reading together.  My belief is that doing homework is important because it shows the children one more way that parents and teachers are on the same team and both want the children to learn.  It’s also important to start having good habits to be prepared for more independence in older grades.  However, I also believe homework should not be such a battle between parents and their children that it damages their relationships.  Together with your child's teacher, we can work out a plan so there are not daily battles.
