Greetings!  As the school social worker at Oakwood Elementary School, I am responsible for helping ensure the well-being and success of Oakwood students by helping promote a safe and welcoming environment in our school through a strong focus on social-emotional learning and promoting positive interpersonal interactions among all students and staff.  I counsel students on an individual and small group basis to address various difficulties students may be facing in their lives, including making friends with same-age peers; experiencing a death or divorce in a student's family; anxiety; and trouble adjusting to school, among other issues.  As a school social worker, I collaborate closely with other professionals in the building to ensure all students reach their full potential and thrive at school. I look forward to a second year at Oakwood School, and welcome phone calls and emails should you have any questions about my role in the building.

Professional Experience

Prior to becoming a school social worker, I earned my Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Chicago, specializing in school social work.  My clinical internships in graduate school were at a high school on the south side of Chicago, and at a K-5 school in Oak Park.  In addition to my school social work experience, I taught first grade in Minneapolis, MN.

Volunteer Experience

In addition to working full-time as a school social worker, I am also a court appointed special advocate volunteer with Cook County.  I have volunteered with CASA of Cook County since August 2011.  In this capacity, I provide children in the foster care system with a voice in court and advocate for their best interests.  I conduct home visits and work with other professionals involved in foster care cases to ensure the safety, stability, and security of children currently in foster care.
