BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES 2009-10 BUDGET
FY 10 to Include a Deficit Reduction Plan and Budget Cuts
The District 113A Board of Education has been working with a committee and the administration to prepare a budget that was publicly heard at their September 30, 2009 Board of Education meeting held at the Old Quarry LRC at 7:00 PM. Throughout the last two years the Board has provided the parents and patrons with information concerning the district’s financial outlook. Last year the Board charged a Finance Committee to work with the administration to come up with recommendations that would help to reduce the deficit spending pattern the district has been in for the last seven years. At that meeting the FY 2010 budget was approved by the Board of Education officially and the official budget was posted on this web site.
At the August 12, 2009 Board meeting the Board approved a tentative 2009-10 budget that projected revenues and expenditures for the upcoming school year. Superintendent, Tim Ricker and Business Manager, Bob Beckwith prepared a presentation for the Board and asked them to set the September date for a public hearing and official approval of the budget according to School Code.
On August 26, 2009, the Board of Education held a budget workshop to discuss, in more detail,the Board’s direction on finalizing the 2009-10 budget to be approved at the September 30, 2009 meeting. Again, Mr. Beckwith and Dr. Ricker provided updated information to the Board including some recommended targets for a Deficit Reduction Plan that will need to accompany the budget this year.
The Board will continue its work with both the Finance Committee and the administration on various other strategies to help the district's financial position. Specifics on the Deficit Reduction Plan chosen by the Board will be the focus of the work of the Finance Committee, Board of Education and Administration. The Board approved a reduction in the deficit for this school year to be $500,000.00 for specifics see the link below.
