Transportation Changes for the 2011-2012 School Year

On May 16, 2011 the Lemont School District 113A Board of Education made the decision to close Central School and to Implement the recommendations from the Transportation Committee that were presented at the February 14, 2011 Board Meeting. Those recommendations would eliminate busing from some areas that are no longer considered a hazard area for students to walk to school. With the development of our community we now have safety measures in place that affords a safe route for our students to walk or bike to school and therefore the area is no longer deemed hazardous and does not qualify for re-imbursement from the State of Illinois.

There are four main areas that are impacted by the decision of the Board of Education. These areas are:

127th Street from St. Vincents Drive to Glenys Drive. This change will impact students living 1.5 miles from River Valley and Oakwood schools…living along 127th Street between St. Vincents Drive and Glenys Drive. This area is complete with sidewalks and is no longer deemed hazardous.

State Street from 1011 State Street and Keepataw Drive. This change will impact students living 1.5 miles from River Valley and Oakwood Schools. This area is complete with sidewalks and is no longer deemed hazardous.

State Street from 132nd Street to 127th Street. This will impact students living 1.5 miles from Old Quarry School. This area is complete with sidewalks and is no longer deemed hazardous.

Timberline Subdivision North of Peiffer Avenue. This will impact students living 1.5 miles from Old Quarry School. This area has no hazard determination from the State of Illinois and will no longer be entitled to transportation to Old Quarry School.
