Third Graders Visit Jurica Nature Museum
Study of the human skeleton ends with museum trip
By Sue Antonoff
Third grade students at Central School got up close and personal with a variety of animals including: mammals, fish, insects, reptiles, birds and fossils. The Jurica-Suchi Nature Museum, at Lisle’s Benedictine University, was host to their culminating field trip for their study of the human skeleton. Students were able to compare and contrast the human skeleton with their favorite animal skull in the museum. They were able to make note of human skull features both similar and different to the animal skulls. Many animal skulls had distinctive differences that accommodated their defense and feeding needs. Third graders were able to identify skeletal commonalities between themselves and the Rorqual Whale suspended from the ceiling. For more information about Jurica-Suchi Nature Museum and hours open to the public visit their website at www.ben.edu/jurica.
