Health Information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

As you know, cold and influenza season is upon us and the best way to reduce the spread of any influenza-like illness is to practice good hygiene.  We, therefore, continue to encourage you to teach/remind your children to wash their hands often; to keep their hands away from their face, eyes, nose, and mouth; and to cover coughs and sneezes with their sleeve or a tissue.  For more prevention tips, please visit the Illinois Department of Public Health online at http://www.idph.state.il.us/flu/index.htm

Please keep your child home from school if he or she shows any flu symptoms, including fever of 100 degrees or more, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and or fatigue. Additional symptoms may be diarrhea and/ or vomiting.  If these symptoms occur, please contact your health care provider and the school immediately.  Children should not return to school until they are fever-free without taking fever-reducing medication for 24 hours.

Students who come to school with flu symptoms will be evaluated by the school’s nurse and will be sent home.  Again, students with influenza -like symptoms are expected to remain at home until they no longer have signs of a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

Please be assured that the health and well-being of our students is our top priority.  We appreciate your cooperation with our efforts to collect information on the exact nature of your child’s illness when you call in an absence.  While you may feel that our questions are intrusive, the questions are being asked to assist us with tracking the level of influenza-like illness that occurs in our District.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.
