Tech 2009 Award Winners Visit Springfield
The State Gets a Look at Central School Students
by Gina Rodewald
On Thursday, April 30, Springfield, Illinois saw a bit of what learning looks like at Central School. Mrs. Klukas and Mrs. Simon were joined by students Ali Kramer and Ryan McAdam, to represent Mrs. Klukas' classroom for their award winning biography project which integrated technology almost every step of the way. The class was awarded a spot at the Tech 2009 event to demonstrate the project in the Capitol Rotunda. The students shared their project with the public, and elected members of the Illinois State Senate and the House of Representatives, to show how technology is being used in the classroom to improve achievement. Ali and Ryan demonstrated to many visitors, including Representative Jim Durkin and Senator Christine Radogno, how technology has helped them with their schoolwork.
The purpose of TECH 2009 is to show how Illinois is preparing student to succeed in the Information Age. Students will demonstrate for lawmakers and the public to creative ways technology is being used to enhance and accelerate student achievement in Illinois schools today. The importance of this event lies in making the public aware of the central role technology has come to play in our schools and generating support for its adequate funding.
Congratulations again to Mrs. Klukas, Mrs. Simon and the fourth graders in Mrs. Klukas's class!
