Student Registration Fees Set for Next Year

Fees increase for technology and textbooks

Student registration fees have been set for the 2009-10 school year by the Board of Education.  Fees have increased for the next school year.  Dr. Tim Ricker, Superintendent, indicates the fee increases are due to both the economic crunch, as well as, the increased costs for educating District 113A students.  Listed below are the fees for the 2008-09 school year and the new fees for the 2009-10 school year.

The first area of increase is a $20.00 dollar increase in Book Rental/Material Fee. This increase is a direct result of the increased purchase of Social Studies books and materials, as well as, the planning to recommend Language Arts books and materials for approval later this spring. Drs. Ricker and Gricus recommended to the Board  the increased cost to the district, along with the State textbook loan program, and those monies will subsidizes these textbook purchases but will in no way cover the total cost of the instructional materials.  Secondly, a $5.00 increase in the Technology Fee to include subsidizing the wireless program and to help address safety and security needs that were identified in the Facilities Master Plan report submitted to the Board by Wight earlier this year.

The Fees for the 2009-10 school year, as compared to last year, are as follows:

Fees Grades 08-09 09-10

Technology Fee EC/K $12.50 $15.00
  Grades 1-8 $25.00 $30.00

Book Rental/Material Fee EC/K $50.00 $60.00
  Grades 1-2 $100.00 $120.00
  Grades 3-8 $120.00 $140.00

Total Registration Fee EC/K $62.50 $75.00
  Grades 1-2 $125.00 $150.00
  Grades 3-8 $145.00 $170.00

It must be mentioned that all of these fees only supplement the expenditures that the district incurs annually and in no way covers the total cost of the technology or materials purchased.
