Summer Reading

Summer Reading

Dear District 113A Families:

Summer is almost here!  Many parents ask how they may continue to foster a love for reading and support reading skills with their children when school is not in session.  In response to those requests, the District 113A LRC Coordinators compiled a listing of books for a Recommended Summer Reading List at each grade level.  Knowing that there are thousands of books on the shelves at the public library and the book stores, we offer our suggestions of books that we believe will enhance your child’s experience with both classic and current children’s literature.

Please keep in mind that the books on the Recommended Summer Reading Lists are NOT requirements for your child’s school program.  However, we are fortunate that District 113A parents are always interested in working as our partners to increase students’ development in literacy.  We hope that you find our recommendations helpful as you assist your child in making reading selections for the summer.  Thank you for your support and for helping to keep the joy of reading alive over the long, hot summer!  Happy reading!

Sincerely,

Mary T. Gricus, Ed.D.   Assistant Superintendent

Natalie Hoyle    LRC Coordinator, Central and Oakwood Schools

Donna Sifling   LRC Coordinator, Old Quarry and River Valley Schools

Please click on the appropriate grade level your child will be entering in August for the Recommended Summer Reading List for that grade level.
