Colonial Days in 5th Grade
By Patrick Casey
On Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 5th grade students at River Valley participated in the annual “Colonial Days.” Students traveled from classroom to classroom throughout the entire day participating in various activities common during colonial times. Activities included making yarn dolls, colonial dancing, colonial food, colonial taxing, horn books, and making pomander balls, soap, and butter. The fifth grade was delighted to have Mrs. Ali Tucker teach the students about colonial food and enjoy the clam chowder and corn bread Mrs. Tucker made. Some students went as far as getting dressed up for “Colonial Days” along with Mrs. Tucker who arrived wearing a house dress women would wear during that time. This will be one day students will remember for years to come.
