Message from the Principal

Picture of Principal Johnny BillingsleyWelcome to Old Quarry Middle School. Our foundation is built upon the four “R’s: respect for learning, respect for others, respect for the environment and most importantly the respect for self. These expectations unite our students, teachers, parents, administration and community together creating an atmosphere of high expectations, continual improvement, and accountability.

The academic success of each student is our number one priority! Our school is guided by three simple, yet very important questions: what do we want each student to know, how will we know if they learned it, and how will we respond if a student experiences difficulty or quickly masters the material?  OQMS teachers will employ a variety of instructional techniques and incorporate the latest technology tools to help prepare your child for 21st-century expectations.

While learning is our main focus at OQMS, we also believe school is a place to explore new opportunities and interest. We offer a variety of electives, after school clubs/activities, and sports. OQMS has something for every student! We encourage every student to get involved in at least two after-school activities. Research shows that students who are involved in at least two after-school activities earn a 3.0 (B) or higher grade point average.

Most importantly, we will provide a safe learning environment for each child, free from intimidation, harm, and bullying. We teach social skills such as problem-solving, empathy, and assertive voice through our “Second Step” curriculum. We help students to become proactive, rather than reactive with their social interactions. We purposefully create small teams to build positive relationships with our students through advisory and team activities. Students at OQMS always have an adult advocate or mentor when in need.

I am committed to serving our students, parents, and community of OQMS. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions that you may have.

Respectfully,

Johnny Billingsley- Principal
